Self-Esteem 5-Day Challenge: Day 1

Day 1: Appreciating Your Strengths

Welcome to Day 1 of the Self-Esteem Challenge.

Today we’re going to be reflecting on all your wonderful strengths and gifts. Ready?

Ask yourself this simple, yet powerful question: Do I love myself?

If the answer is, “No,” that needs to change.

Today.

If you want to succeed, you absolutely MUST approve of yourself. It really doesn’t matter what others think, but it matters an awful lot what YOU think about you.

So let’s begin by taking time to appreciate yourself. This is the foundation of self-esteem.

Action

This course is going to ask you to consider your responses to various questions and situations, and ask you to record your answers. The reason? When you write things down it is MUCH more effective than just thinking about your answers!

So, you could write your answers on a piece of paper. Or open a new document on your computer. Or best of all, buy yourself a journal. Maybe a Moleskine!

Now let’s move on. Write down TEN things you appreciate about yourself. This doesn’t need to be overcomplicated. For example:
● Are you good at spreadsheets?
● Cooking?
● Do you have a good sense of humor?
● Do you do well with kids?
● Do you manage finances well?
● Are you empathetic?

You MUST come up with at least ten things you like about yourself. No shortcuts!

If you can keep going, come up with more than 10. Once you have them, I want you to read them every morning and night – first thing when you get up, and last thing before you go to bed. Daily. For the next four weeks!

Remember, you’re valuable and should love yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

Reflection

Self esteem begins with loving who you are, accepting who you are, and appreciating your strengths. If you can’t appreciate who you are, you’ll never have good self-esteem.

Reflect on the following quotes:

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” (Buddha).

“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval” (Mark Twain).

What do you think about these statements? Write down your response in your journal.

Coming next

Stay tuned for tomorrow because we’re going to be doing some wonderful affirmations that help you accept and love yourself. See you then!
